The Hybrid Team Canvas emerged in 2020/2021 from the need to structure and make manageable the components for building happy, high-performing remote teams and businesses for our leadership advisory clients at acework.

I developed a coherent framework from building blocks and practices already in use, which can be employed as needed. The only mandatory part is what I call “People Discovery”:

<aside> ℹ️ What Product Discovery achieves in product work, People Discovery replicates in teams and organisations: comprehensive contextual understanding and clear situational awareness with a focus on needs and boundaries – which we then can transform into value in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and quality. In this case: better work and results paired with more cohesion and trust.

Hence the people in the team are always the starting point, with the “User Manual of Me” as the core. See there for details.

"People ⇒ Process ⇒ Tooling" is a well-known guiding principle in agile team and organisational development. However, it lacks a critical component: Context – namely, the surrounding system – and thus situational awareness. My framework provides this and bridges the different "altitudes" and levels of detail from the organisational context to specific desired behaviours and their implementation.

Teams and organisations are always complex – this can quickly become overwhelming. The framework does not hide the complexity but follows a simple design pattern and does not have to be used in its entirety.
